Touch on an Absence

Jul 5 - Jul 15
Details:

Artists
Tabaimo, Josh Shaffner, Lea Vidakovic, Stephen Vuillemin

Since her debut, Tabaimo has created extraordinary spaces where physical reality and animation seamlessly blend. Her work invites viewers into the depths of everyday life, capturing elusive sensations, textures, and memories that often go unnoticed. In her latest project, Tabaimo collaborates with three other animation artists to create a single piece, marking a new endeavor. Although animation has always been central to her expressive techniques, it was during her judging role at the New Chitose Airport International Animation Festival that she rediscovered the profoundness of the animation world. Inspired by this, she began working with three artists she met at the festival.

The venue for this project is the Terada Warehouse, a facility specializing in art storage. The project takes place in one of the warehouse’s rooms, where the presence of water, living organisms, and similar entities is strictly prohibited. Hence, Tabaimo's initial theme was to bring in entities that are not allowed in the space. Through animation, an "if" world opens up, leading to the creation of fantasies and narratives. The captivating works of the three artists, typically displayed on screens, are unleashed into the space through collaboration with Tabaimo. This results in a new, immersive installation that intricately ties together animation and the context of art, providing a multifaceted experience of animation's allure.
