Yoichi Umetsu "Exhibition Maker"

May 12 - Aug 4
Details:

The title "Exhibition Maker" is related to an episode involving Harald Szeemann, who curated the first art exhibition at the Watari Museum of Contemporary Art in 1990. At that time, the term "curator" was not commonly used worldwide, so Szeemann referred to himself as a "maker of exhibitions."

This exhibition entrusted the organization to the artist Yoichi Umetsu. The exhibition is centered around a collection of artworks gathered through the connections of Shizuko Watari (former director) before the establishment of the Watari Museum of Contemporary Art. Most of these works have never been publicly displayed at the Watari Museum. The exhibition also includes currently active artists, and innovative display methods have been employed.
