Job Description

Are you an enthusiastic UI/UX Designer who is passionate about video games? Do you possess expertise in creating user interfaces that are engaging and easy to use, improving the overall gaming experience? If yes, then we have an exciting opportunity that you won't want to miss!

We're seeking a highly skilled UI/UX Designer to join our team at Shapefarm. As a UI/UX Designer, your primary responsibility will be to develop, implement, and maintain the user interface and user experience of our video games. You'll collaborate closely with game designers, artists, and programmers to ensure that the user interface aligns with the game's aesthetic and vision, while also meeting the needs and expectations of the players.

To be successful in this role, you should have a comprehensive understanding of game development principles, UI/UX design principles, and graphic design principles. You should also be proficient in design software such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Sketch, Figma, and/or similar tools. Proficiency in Unreal Engine 5 is a big advantage. Furthermore, you should possess a thorough grasp of user-centered design and be capable of translating user requirements into visual designs. You should stay up-to-date with the latest UI/UX trends and best practices in the gaming industry.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of game development principles, UI/UX design principles, and graphic design principles
  • Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Sketch, Figma, and/or similar tools
  • Knowledge of Unreal Engine is a must
  • Strong understanding of user-centered design and the ability to translate user needs into visual designs
  • Understanding of UI/UX trends and best practices in the gaming industry
  • Ability to create wireframes, mockups, and prototypes to effectively communicate design concepts
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with diverse teams

Process

  • Responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the user interface and user experience
  • Work closely with game designers, programmers, and other artists to create intuitive and engaging interfaces that enhance the overall gameplay experience
  • Day-to-day needs may include designing and iterating on wireframes, creating and implementing visual designs, collaborating with production staff to ensure designs are properly implemented, and testing and providing feedback on the overall user experience

Accountability

  • Accountable for designing and implementing intuitive, visually appealing, and engaging user interfaces and user experiences for video games
  • Responsible for ensuring that the interface design aligns with the game's overall aesthetic and vision while also meeting user needs and expectations
  • Accountable for creating and iterating on designs until they meet the standards of the project's stakeholders

Communication

  • Can communicate effectively with cross-functional teams, including game designers, programmers, and other artists
  • Ability to collaborate with external partners such as marketing teams to gather feedback on designs

Planning, Scheduling, and Delivery

  • Ability to work with producers to develop a timeline for delivering interface designs
  • Ability to estimate the time required for each design iteration and communicate any potential delays or issues that may arise
  • Responsible for ensuring that the designs are delivered on time and meet the project's quality standards

Management

  • Manages own time well
  • Manage any external UI/UX resources

Japanese Visa Qualifications

A bachelor's degree or 10 years of experience
