MAM Project 033: Christine Sun Kim

Jul 2 - Nov 9
Details:

This edition of “MAM Project” presents Christine Sun Kim, an American-born artist based in Berlin, Germany.

Through drawings, video, sculpture, and installation, Kim has explored the non-auditory aspects of sound and its underlying political significance. In her drawings that incorporate musical notation, infographics, and text, American Sign Language - Kim’s first language - is transformed into lines and spatial relationships, capturing its dynamic movements and rich emotional expressions.

This exhibition features her new mural and sound installation Community Sigh (2025). Kim’s witty works reveal the complexities of sound, language, and communication while presenting a fresh perspective on the essence and possibilities of “conveying” meaning. Her art makes us aware of how these elements influence our senses, social roles, and individual experiences, functioning as a mirror that reflects our social and political circumstances.
