Job Description

Whether you're on a consumer product (like Gmail, Search, Maps, Chrome, Android) or a business product (Google Ads, AdSense, Google Marketing Platform, Analytics), you take part in a complete marketing experience as you lead every facet of the product's journey. From determining positioning, naming, competitive analysis, feature prioritization and external communications, you help shape the product and help it grow a consumer base. This means you work with a cross-functional team across Sales, corporate communications, legal, webmasters, product development, engineering and more. In this role, you'll be involved with product marketing strategy from beginning to end.

As the Head of YouTube Marketing, Japan, you will oversee, own, and lead a long-term goal and strategy for YouTube marketing in Japan. You will be in charge of driving YouTube business and brand growth in Japan. You will manage the entire Japan YouTube Marketing activities end-to-end, and be responsible for managing the local Japan YouTube Marketing team. You will also be a part of the YouTube Japan leadership team.

In this role, you will help creators and viewers to get the most out of the YouTube experience, whether it be to grow their creator business, spend quality time watching videos for their entertainment to learnings, or understand the value of the creator economy and YouTube’s responsibility in it.

Know the user. Know the magic. Connect the two. At its core, marketing at Google starts with technology and ends with the user, bringing both together in unconventional ways. Our job is to demonstrate how Google's products solve the world's problems--from the everyday to the epic, from the mundane to the monumental. And we approach marketing in a way that only Google can--changing the game, redefining the medium, making the user the priority, and ultimately, letting the technology speak for itself.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee/own all marketing for YouTube in Japan, and drive decisions on the allocation of the Japan YouTube marketing budget and team resources to maximize impact.
  • Influence and lead cross-functional collaborations, and anticipate and proactively resolve potential collisions between global product roadmaps and local Japanese market needs, guiding and mediating between teams to find mutually beneficial solutions.
  • Demonstrate expert knowledge of Japanese users, local market insights, culturally-nuanced messaging, and the creator landscape to drive the product marketing strategy.
  • Serve as a trusted and visible spokesperson for YouTube in Japan, and clearly articulate YouTube's value and strategy to internal and external stakeholders and partners.
  • Lead and guide a team towards business goals, set and communicate individual and team priorities that support organizational goals; and provide coaching to support each team member for their development.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 13 years of experience in marketing, working across one or more marketing fields (i.e. growth, product marketing, brand marketing, social).
  • 5 years of experience with people management.
  • Ability to communicate in Japanese and English fluently, as this role requires interactions with local stakeholders in Japan, as well as the regional/global stakeholders in other countries.

Preferred qualifications

  • 18 years of experience in a Marketing role, with 10 years of experience as a people manager.
  • Experience working in consumer/B2C marketing, including tech industry.
  • Experience developing and executing social strategies from concept to execution, and engaging communities.
  • Ability to write sophisticated copies and make creative judgments in Japanese.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with experience managing cross-functional or cross-team projects.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and strategic thinking skills.
