Job Description
Role Overview
We’re now hiring a Head of Product to own our unique software suite of advanced immersion language learning products. Always know precisely what our users need while keeping business objectives in mind and synthesizing it all into an efficient tightly controlled product development process. Because you’re a user yourself, you give our marketing team the verbal tools they need to craft effective messaging. You can jump between beginner mind and power-user mind to make our software optimally cater to both segments.
This is a unique opportunity to shape a beloved product during its initial growth stage and directly influence the legacy of the language learning landscape. If you love learning languages and consider yourself a legendary product manager then we want to hear from you!
The key factor by which we select for this role will be your ability to put yourself in the position of both power and beginner users to 1. activate them according to their unique needs and to 2. skillfully balance feature planning and development efforts for both sides to keep them happy and retained.
Responsibilities
- Be the product owner for our breakthrough language learning software suite over the course of the full product lifecycle (market research>ideation>development>user conversion>onboarding>activation>long-term retention)
- Be the glue between creative and engineering team (collaborate closely to implement features), market (talk with customers to understand their needs), and marketing team (use your product knowledge and market insights to help craft core messaging)
- Use your superior creativity, product instincts, and market insights to work closely with designers and engineers to define what the product should be capable of
- Design frictionless onboarding flows that convert free users to paid subscribers rapidly and build features specifically to boost Day 1 activation, Week 1 retention, and long-term engagement
- Get your hands dirty right down to the buttons of the user interface and even the words on ads
- Develop an intimate awareness of different needs between beginner users and power users to balance resource allocation and user satisfaction across user types
- Form a precise understanding on what the market thinks it wants, and how we can slowly modulate the market’s thinking without overwhelming or confusing potential customers
- Control resources during development to avoid scope creep and to make sure the product doesn’t try to solve too many problems at once, but just as many as needed
- Understand the importance of releasing dirty but good enough MVPs to gather data as early as possible and immediately iterate on it
- Foster an innovative culture within the product team, hiring new team members when needed and providing mentoring to create the next generation of product wizards
Qualifications
- Exceptional ability to synthesize market research, customer feedback, product instincts, and technical constraints into a cohesive product vision
- Experience implementing successful activation and retention strategies is required
- Proficiency in design tools to create product concepts and wireframes (e.g., Figma), and project management software is required
- Experience managing budgets and timelines in a fast-paced development environment is required
- Experience as a product leader in consumer software is required
- Passion for language learning is required
- Having studied a difficult language relative to your native language to high proficiency is a huge plus
